| Arizona Termites are just like any other. The most common Termite in the desert southwest is the Subterranean Termite. They live underground in large colonies and can travel great distances foraging for food, our homes. Termite damage cost home owners millions of dollars each year. So knowing more about this little pest can always help. The Termites feed off cellulose in the wood from our homes. They travel from there colonies under ground up into our structures then back down to the colony to supply it. When the Termites are out of the ground they have to build small mud tubes to travel in. These tubes are the best way to spot there activity. They are most commonly seen on the sides of your concrete foundations coming up from the ground. They can also be seen on the sides of interior walls or even hanging down from the ceilings inside your home. Once a year the winged reproductive Termite can be seen by the thousands heading out of the colony to start to build new colonies. This is normally in the Desert monsoon seasons when the humidity is up and there is more moisture in the air to help the Termites survive. The best rule to follow is to have a quality Termite control company do a free inspections of your home or business. |
